Frosh week (also known as Orientation Week or Fresher's Week around the world) is all about welcoming incoming students to the community of a University or College. And here at Winters College we aim to do just that!
Now your first question might be: what the heck is Winters College? I thought I was going to a University? What kind of scammery is this?! RELAX. You are going to York University! The University is split up into separate Colleges by disciplines. If you think of York like a big city, the Colleges are the separate neighbourhoods - each with their own unique community. Winters College is the Fine Arts/Communication Studies/Education College. So, if you are majoring in any of those areas OR you are lucky enough to live in Winters Residence, then Winters Frosh Week is probably for you!
There are two components to Frosh Week at York University: academic orientation and social orientation. Academic orientation happens in the morning and gets you acquainted with various Academic services at York University. There may also be academic orientations that are specific to your program of study to get your oriented for your first day of classes.
The second and more exciting half is the social orientation that takes place during the afternoon and at night. This is where you meet all your new classmates, housemates, and collegemates through various social events. Going to University is a big step for a lot of people and it can be quite disorienting at first. But don't worry, there's going to be a LOT of people there to help you out. Every year the best of the best at Winters College band together to welcome new students to Winters College and get them on their way in University Life! These are the Frosh Bosses and they are here to help you out. Their goal is to help you make new friends, find your way around campus, answer ANY questions you have about anything, and essentially make sure you are having a GOOD TIME! They are very nice people, you'll like them.
There is a wide variety of events, from Band Nights to Quad parties to Water fights and finally, the end of week Boat Cruise - the Winters Frosh week flagship event that is NOT to be missed! We try to have a wide range of events, so you are bound to find something you like.
